I was born and raised in Tehama Co., in Northern California. I graduated from Red Bluff High School, Shasta College, and Chico State College. I retired from UC Davis in 2004 after almost 40 years service. I currently live in Carmichael, California with my beautiful wife of 7 years who humors and supports me in my genealogical passion.

My Zumalt family came to California from Missouri via Idaho in the 1920's. My mother's paternal Mohr family settled in the Cottonwood area in the 1880's, her maternal family (Stavig/Emerson/Gould) came from South Dakota in 1900 to settle in the Sharon Fruit Colony at Jelly's Ferry, Tehama Co.

My wife's paternal family (Lovelace/LeFever) came to the Sacramento/Folsom area from Missouri and all points East. Her maternal family names are Morrill, Johnston, and DeForest. The Johnstons and DeForests were among the earliest settlers in Lassen Co., California. Clinton DeForest, my wife's great great grandfather was a member of the John C. Fremont expeditions that explored the Western United States in the early 1840's.

I am currently working on California Zumalt/Zumwalts in Find A Grave. My theory is that almost all can be traced back to Andrew Zumwalt who immigrated to the US in 1737. Thus far I have been quite successful in proving my point. Any help with this project would be greatly appreciated.
