I am a school nurse, therefore have the summers off to devote to genealogy, historical preservation and cemetery projects. My main cemetery focus is "Leeds" Municipal Farms of Kansas City , Missouri. Established in 1911-1965. Long forgotten as a potter's field. The graves are unmarked , but many of the old metal markers have been found buried in the ground. It is in 2 sections. Section #1 is located between Raytown road and Ozark Rd. on Eastern st. between the National guard Armory and the Police helicopter pad. Approx the 4900 blook. On the East side of I-435. Burials from 1911-dec 1934. We have compiled a partial list of names buried at this site of approx. 3000 burials, at present have up to 1,110 names. Still adding.
The 2nd section on the west side of I-435 is on the east and west sides of the Police shooting range. At 6900 Coal mine Rd. take "Winchester" off of Raytown Rd. Blacks are buried on the west side and whites are buried on the east. The graves markers are at ground level, made by the inmates that filled a 3lbs. food can ,filled with concrete and numbered.Burials are from Dec 1934 - 1965.
