I've been walking cemeteries and have been involved in genealogy since childhood. My father, who was an avid history buff, often would tell us oral histories of the people and places we visited that made it sound so exciting. Because of that, one of my siblings and I developed a lifelong passion for learning more about our roots.

There is something that is so peaceful about a cemetery. If you listen just right to the wind, you can hear the past history that lies underneath your feet. Where else can you find an ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War, making that era in history come alive just by reading his tombstone? Where else can you understand a mother's tears when you come across the many graves of children and infants who died way too soon? Where else can you realize your place in this world through the simple task of honoring your ancestors by preserving their graves for all the generations that will follow you?
