I am photographer in the Shasta County area of Northern California. I found my passion for photographing cemeteries while studying Photography in college. My primary enjoyment is finding those long, lost and forgotten cemeteries and bringing the cemeteries and those within back to life via images that are shared. A friend forwarded me the link to this site and I knew I needed to become a member to share some of those lost, yet found cemeteries. I first started by visiting the Mt. Hope cemetery in Pescadero California when I was just beginning photography and have many photos in Infrared, black and white and some color. After this I learned about a city in the San Francisco Bay Area called Colma which is best known for having more dead residence than living. Cypress Lawn and Holy Cross cemeteries (also in Colma) were my next explorations and were well rewarding in terms of photography.
Currently, I have been exploring California's Gold Country learning the history and, of course, Gold Prospecting...you can't avoid it, there really is such a thing as Gold Fever! My arsenal of tools now consist of maps, history books, camera and now the gold pan and sluice box. I made it a point to look up some old cemeteries in the area, but my newest find is compliments of an old miner we happened along the way named Ken. He told us of a cemetery about a mile up the road from a town called Iowa Hill. Our first adventure had us turning around a few feet before the entrance as we just could not find it. I was not giving up, so the next day we ventured out again and then once we found it we realized the error of not going just a few more feet to discover this lone cemetery way up in the mountains. The name of the cemetery is Iowa Hill Cemetery and is filled with some great characters that have not been forgotten by the locals, but unknown to most of the world. This will be my first entry and I hope that by the time you read this I have found and added more for all to enjoy and perhaps visit.
