Born in Rock Hill, SC as an Abernathy, the daughter of Norman James Abernathy and Mary Ellen Baker Abernathy. I have one brother Norman James Abernathy Jr. We grew up in Charlotte, NC. and Irmo, SC.
Married John Schmieg in Irmo, SC in 1976, and have four children, one born in Minnesota, one in North Carolina, and two in Texas. I have four grandchildren, two girls and two boys.

The past decade plus, I have lost a great deal of family members, many at young ages.
