When I was a child in 1950's Chesterfield, Virginia I often asked my relatives if we had any soldiers that served in the Civil War. My questions were unanswered.
Early on, the fees for accessing the US Census were a barrier. My current main tree is the result of my adding to the work of those who came before me. These include my father, my great uncle, friends and others now departed.
My main tree is in it's 6th generation. I grow tired of it at times and have quit more than once. New information brings me back. Every time it does, I find I have learned how to research in more efficient and effective ways.
