Charles Brooks joined the staff of McFarlin Library at The University of Tulsa in August of 1987. Over the years he has held several different positions in the library, including Cataloger, Reference Librarian, Instruction Librarian, Web Services Librarian and Digitization Librarian. He has been the Electronic Resources Librarian since 2008. Among other duties, he manages the library's online materials (databases, e-books, e-journals, etc.), and assists with Instruction and Research Services, providing research assistance at the Reference Desk and teaching classes in how to conduct library research. In November 2022 he received the TU Staff Advisory Council's quarterly Pillar Award, recognizing his long and deep commitment to The University of Tulsa. Charles has a B.A. and M.A. in history from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and the M.L.I.S. from the University of Oklahoma. He is a Past President of the Oklahoma Library Association and currently serves as the Association's Website Administrator.

In his time off Charles enjoys researching his family history, reading books and watching movies. A "P.K.", Charles is active in his church, St. Dunstan's Episcopal, where he has been a member of the vestry for the past several years and currently (2026) serves as Senior Warden. He has been married for 39 years to his wife, Linda, who is a retired English teacher. Their daughter Maggie graduated summa cum laude from TU in 2019 and earned her Master's degree in 2022 from the University of Iowa. Charles and his family are the helpless playthings of their feline overlord Mister Tibbles.

Charles is a member of the Oklahoma Library Association (since 1988) and the Mountain Plains Library Association (since 2010). He is deeply honored to have received both the Special Meritorious Service Award (2011) and the Distinguished Service Award (2015) from OLA, and the Outstanding Service Award (2025) from the Oklahoma Chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries.
