I have been involved in geneology for a little over 25 years. Both of my grandmothers kept everything they could and I was lucky to receive all the books, images, and heirlooms from my mother and father's sides of the family.

Advice.....If you are photographing a headstone for someone or for yourself, take a look at the cemetery homepage first and see if there is a picture for the cemetery and if it has been mapped yet. If not, go ahead and snap a picture and get an exact location of the cemetery so that it can be added if its not already there. You and your entire family may know where the John Doe Cemetery is in Smith County, but no one else will.
