Douglas Jason "Doug" Warden, Staff Sergeant, US Army, Retired, was born in Prague, Oklahoma in 1947 to Robert C. and Katherene Warden. He graduated from Prague High School in 1964. He was drafted into the US Army at Shawnee, Oklahoma on June 28, 1966, serving with C Company, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 12th Cavalry, 1st Air Cavalry Division, from May 1967 to May 1968 in the Republic of Vietnam. As a draftee, he served as a light weapons infantryman, radio telephone operator for his platoon leader and company commander, squad leader, platoon sergeant, and platoon leader. He was promoted to SSG E-6 in December 1967 after only seventeen months on active duty, the youngest staff sergeant in the Army at that time. He was awarded two Silver Stars (the United States military's third highest award for gallantry in action), the Soldier's Medal (the Army's highest award for lifesaving), the Bronze Star with "V" device (the fourth highest award for heroism), the Air Medal (for making over 100 combat assaults in helicopters), three Purple Hearts (for wounds received in action), the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (unit award) and the Valorous Unit Citation (unit award) for his service in Vietnam. In addition, he earned the Combat Infantry Badge and the Parachutist Badge. He was retired with a medical retirement from the US Army on March 2, 1973 after suffering an fall from a 34-foot parachute tower when the anchor line cable failed in July, 1972, while serving with the 400th ASASOD, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) on Okinawa. Doug graduated from Webster College in St. Louis, Missouri in 1980, with a BA in Business Management. He worked for Southwestern Bell, AT&T and Gartner, Inc. for over 25 years before early retirement in 1993. He now is retired and resides in Oklahoma. He was married to his wife Marty from 1968 till her passing in 2018 and has two children and five grandchildren. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame in 2020.
