Family history has always been of interest to me but it wasn't until my grandparents passed away that I started seriously researching and documenting my lineage. When I started my pursuit I was under the mistaken opinion that I was simply Scottish on both my maternal and paternal sides. I learned very quickly that seldom is a person only what has been passed down verbally from generation to generation. A verbal record only goes so far. Lines get blurred, people get forgotten and family history gets distorted.
