I've loved researching family since marrying in 1990 when my F-I-L told me his mother was a 'Nees' and only added an 'e' when she married…to become a 'Neese'.
I was curious if they were related in any way as they grew up in the same area. I learned a lot by searching for that answer but found that they were at least 6 generations apart after a trip to the courthouse in Greene Co, TN where a fire that burnt the courthouse is a problem that many others find while looking for answers. That spark led to a fire that still burns brightly!
