2013 note: Photos taken during summer 2012 may show the grass dry because of the terrible drought in the area then. I am also at a point where the tombstones that still exist are very old and often illegible. In addition, based on a number of obituaries found (Thank you, Alma) there are also a number of tombstones missing. Bear with me as I try to research these possible missing interments. CS

Having been born in Marshall, Saline, MO and spent my early years until my senior year in high school (Mercy High) living in Shackelford, then about 7 miles outside of Marshall, I have chosen to work on pulling information and tombstone photos for Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery. It is a couple miles north and west of where my home parish (Immaculate Conception) was and I remember going to the services every Memorial Day. They still have those services every year and the cemetery board has done a really great job of maintaining Mt. St. Mary's, though some of the much older stones (late 1800's) may be missing now or unreadable.
Though I don't live in the area now, I have been back there working on this project for the past several years, not just taking the photos of the tombstones, but also trying to verify the information with other genealogical data. It is a work in progress, but also a labor of love as many of my family are buried there.
