I'm a hobby genealogist for my family trying to find my roots in the Buffalo, NY / Hamilton, Ontario area for the Ellis side of my family. My grandfather, Harry John Ellis was born to Henry (Henricus) & Magdalene (Lena) Stachelhouse Ellis in 1901. He was born in Hamilton but they lived in Buffalo. He had one younger Sister, Dorothy who married a man named Leo Roy but they never had children. When he was a child, his father left them. She died July 5, 1915 when he was 14 and my grandfather Harry reportedly ran off to avoid being put in an orphanage, and landed in Seattle where he had a large family. I have a picture of his grandmother and it has the names Sectler and Stecklhaus written on the back. He returned to Buffalo on a trip shortly before he died of the flu in 1957 and took a picture of his mother's grave. It was in a German & French Catholic Cemetery in Buffalo. I found something that says Lot 1, Section 13, Line 7, Grave 502 but I can't find it on Findagrave. I tried contacting the cemetery but they said all the records were destroyed in a fire. The stone just said "Mother" and Magdalena Ellis on it.
