Growing up in an old New England town that dates back to the 1600's and graveyards just as old got me interested in cemeteries very early in life. I can recall visiting our town's local cemeteries with my scouting group for some gravestone rubbing expeditions. The most intriguing grave I've ever seen and discovered on one of those scouting trips is located in the town where I grew up - Find A Grave Memorial# 6393238 (Mary Fowler).
Some of my favorite cemeteries that I've visited are Old Burial Hill, Plymouth, MA, Crosby Family Graveyard that I stumbled upon in the middle of the woods as a kid in Brewster, MA , Shoemaker Cemetery in Dalton, PA where the majority of my close relatives are buried ,and Union Cemetery in Easton, CT.
I have a dual interest in FindAGrave. While cemeteries are intriguing because they are so full of history that is often unknown to those of us visiting (one can only imagine all the family history beneath the surface), but also because I grew up in a family that has kept phenomenal genealogical records which include hundreds of photographs, war documentation and letters. We are fortunate to have our family's direct (and some more distant) genealogical records back 13 generations to the late 14th century Mecklenberg, Germany.
I am so pleased to have the access to so many family photos and biographical stories of my close relatives that have been passed down to me from my family that I can provide to make the memorials as complete as possible. I feel that these contributions will be of interest to close and distant relatives, local historians, or those who are intrigued by "days gone by".
I am an avid photographer and am happy that I can volunteer my services for providing other members with photos that are beyond their local areas. I would always be happy to transfer any memorial to a family member who is of a closer relation than I.
