My primary interest is the 487th Bomb Group (Heavy), which consisted of the 836th, 837th, 838th and 839th Bomb Squadrons and supporting units. This Group was based at Army Air Forces Station 137 (aka RAF Lavenham) near Lavenham, Suffolk, England, and was part of the 3rd Air Division of the 8th U.S. Army Air Force in Europe. The Group flew 185 combat missions between May 7, 1944 and April 21, 1945. It flew 46 missions in the B-24 'Liberator' heavy bomber from May through July 1944, and 139 missions in the B-17 'Flying Fortress' heavy bomber from August 1944 through the end of World War II in Europe.
My uncle Roy M Webber served in the 487th Bomb Group in 1944. I am working with other members of the 487th Bomb Group Association to honor all veterans of the Group. See these virtual cemeteries:
