Jan Bos is a retired police officer in his hometown Nijmegen in Holland. He is an amateur World War Two historian to the 82nd Airborne Division and Troop Carriers. The 82nd liberated Nijmegen during the so-called operation Market Garden, starting 17 September 1944. The paratroopers and glidermen from the 82nd Airborne Division could not do their job without the support of the crewmembers of the C-47s from the Troop Carrier transport planes, dropping the paratroopers and towing the CG-4A Waco gliders. He is working on temporary American cemeteries in North Africa and Europe.
Jan Bos has adopted several graves at Margraten (Holland), Draguignan in southern France and Henri Chapelle (Belgium) Cemeteries. All theaters where the 82nd fought are of his interest. He wrote the book "Circle and the Fields of Little America" about the 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion (82nd Airborne Division) and another about the temporary American cemetery GELA on Sicily, where over 1,200 Americans were buried in the 1943-1948 period.
