While it has often times been a challenge to research the unknown, it has been so rewarding to work with cousins who share the same passion and the celebration of knocking down many brick walls, one at a time, over years of collaborated research. The collection of memorials that have come into my care, are from the research of cousins and the many volunteers who have come before me to create memorials to honor our ancestors, and to them we thank and appreciate those transfers.
Researching my southern roots:
Casady & Davis: William Casady & Amias Davis both of GA, married in Harris Co., GA. Traveled to AL early 1800. Their son John Jurdan Casady married Missouri Jane Weldon, daughter of Baily & Sarah (Martin) of GA. The Family moved on to AL then MS.
Shelton: 1702 Ralph Shelton Sr and Mary ???, of Middlesex, VA, through their son Ralph Jr. & Mary Daniel. By 1850 The Shelton's settled in Sumner/Webster Co., MS. In appreciation of Joyce Shelton McFarland for putting her 30+ years of travel and research together in the book of Ralph Shelton of Middlesex County, VA.
Mitchell: Thomas Landreth & Sarah (Kennedy)both of GA settled in the Western Division of Choctaw Co., MS by 1850. They had 5 sons.
Woods.Wood.Fowler: Harvey Woods & Elizabeth Fowler married 1831 Marion Co., AL. Census records indicate that Harvey was born in North or South Carolina and Elizabeth was born in GA. They settled in Choctaw Co., MS to raise their 8 Children. When Harvey died, Elizabeth remarried James Blackmon Wood. We honor Henry Bernard Campbell of Eupora, Webster Co., MS for his leadership in research and bringing so many cousins together. Thank you to Lavelle Sutton Davis for her contributions to the Woods and Faulkner lines. A huge "Thank You" to Charmane Campbell for her "Wooden Seeds" website. To Verna Woods Stone for her determination to follow every lead, no matter how trivial in her "hands on" research to identify "Harvey Woods" as Husband to Elizabeth Fowler's and Father of those 8 youngens.
Jordan: Isaac Caswell 1826 - 1863 and Sophia (Siler) Jordan. Isaac was a Confederate Soldier of SC during the Civil War, was captured and died in Libby Prison. They had 5 children.
