My initial involvement in this forum was mainly to add what information I have to correct some errors in the recorded genealogy which was added to the section of E. Russ Williams' edition of Luke Ward Conerly's 'PIKE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI HISTORY 1798-1876' (pub. 1909). Thomas H. Holmes' line lists children & grandchildren all together in Section II. I am very familiar with this line and it appears others are repeating the errors recorded in the newer edition of the book. I submitted to the late Dr. Wendell B. Holmes of McComb (the Holmes Family Historian & Genealogist) the information I had gathered on the Elisha W. Holmes, Jr. line as well as the Thomas H. Holmes & John Thomas Holmes lines. E. Russ Williams did a very excellent job but was recording numerous genealogies so naturally he presented what he was given. He obviously could not always double and triple check each & every source exhaustively. Like Dr. Williams, I too seek to be very accurate in checking & double checking all sources (nevertheless, mistakes can always be made). Sometimes two dates are given from good sources and you must seek to discern which is correct. Such is the case in studying one's family history. The Scriptures warn us not to delve too heavily into our genealogies, for if we are not careful, it can become an endless task ending up stealing our time & promoting vain glory (for near or distant, everyone has some glorious ancestor or ancestors - as well as some who are not).
