I became involved with Find A Grave after listening to my father recall stories of relatives while I was working on our family tree. He recounted the many people throughout his life, the happy and sad times, the love, laughter, and tears they shared. I knew that all those folks were special and would be forever in his heart. I couldn't help but wonder who distant family members were, where they were buried, if memorials, pictures, or obituaries existed for them. Slowly, I created memorials and began to request photos of relatives in places I knew I would never visit. My father would ask if anyone posted photos when he would visit. His eyes would light up when I had a photo of a treasured relative. I would see the disappointment when requests went unfulfilled. As a result, I began to watch the request others we making. I knew I wanted to volunteer to fulfill the requests of others. I met a wonderful individual who met me at a local cemetery and walked me through the process he used to photograph headstones. I am respectful and say a prayer at each grave site. I often find myself creating memorials as I discover new relatives in our family tree or visit a cemetery.
