I choose to post obituaries and names of living family members in my memorials contrary to Find A Grave guidelines. I do this because:

(1) Obituaries are published publicly by funeral homes, newspapers, and churches. I do not see the rationale for redacting the names of living relatives from obituaries posted here. If the family wanted names of living relatives protected, they would not have listed them in the published obituary.

(2) It helps those coming behind us in later years to connect their memorials to the CORRECT relatives who have passed on earlier.

(3) As funeral homes change website providers, are bought out by, sold to other funeral providers, or go out of business, online memorials on their sites are lost. At least on Find A Grave, they will be maintained longer than they will on the funeral home websites and social media pages.

I am quite sure I am not the only member on Find A Grave who feels the same way about this. I don't expect everyone to agree with what I said above but at least respect my decision and the rationale behind it.
