I started with findagrave in order to record the locations of as many of the graves of my relatives as possible. I'm also trying to link them together as I find new ones.
My Dad's family came mainly from the Washington, D.C. area from the Civil War on. Before that, McGraths from Ireland via Philadelphia; Tobins, Rileys, Clarks, and Breens from Ireland to the District of Columbia and Baltimore.
Mom's family dwelt for many generations in north central Maryland - Frederick and Carroll Counties mostly. Moores, Boones, Eylers, Gosnells, Fogles, Locks, Garbers, and many more.
My feeling is that it is best for a memorial to be managed by as close a relative as possible. I will usually be willing to transfer a memorial to you if you are a significantly closer relative than I am to the person memorialized, especially if you have more or better information than I do, or are willing to write a good bio.
I have better things to do than throw a fit if you want to download one of my pictures and put it on Ancestry or whatever, but I would enjoy getting a credit or a thank-you message. I also like to hear from my cousins out there, especially on my Dad's side.
I've done some genetic genealogy testing, and found that the McGrath Y haplogroup is R-M222, which is the one that's been traced to Niall of the nine hostages, an Irish hell raiser from the fifth century.
