I have been doing genealogical research personally for 38 years and professionally for 35 years.I am a member of The Association of Certified Professional Genealogists and the Daughters of the American Revolution, so I know how important family history is and what it is like to get that picture of the tombstone of your relative to be able to see their final resting place, and getting that one elusive clue that can help jump start your family history again so it is my pleasure to help out with taking photos as I am able.

When a person has no stone, I look up the cemetery records or ask the cemetery sexton or board of trustees and then go to the exact spot where the person was buried and photograph it so you can add a tombstone of your ancestor or loved one. No one should remain in an unmarked grave. Please stop asking FAG to remove them. You're not helping other researchers any. The photos I have taken of GRAVES, people have been asking FAG to remove them. Please stop doing this. The photos document the actual burial place.

Also remember, gravestones do have typos, especially the early ones. Mistakes are also on vital records and census records. I have had people swear by these records, and I in turn, have found many in which the year of birth or marriage is wrong, and I have proven it with other records. Just because it is on the tombstone or record, unless it is verifiable with many other records, it is not necessarily accurate. I have found this in my many years of researching my own family's ancestors. Engravers today are still making mistakes on current tombstones, just FYI. No one is perfect, we are all human.

Whatever info is on a memorial, (unless I have made a typo, then please tell me or suggest the correct one). The info I add to memorials I manage, I have spent hours to find and verify with many other documents. Please don't ask me to change verified information with something found on ancestry or old census records. I am trying to make sure other researchers have the most accurate information possible for their research on their loved ones and ancestors.

So, if you would like a memorial transferred that is not a member of my family, please state your exact relationship to the person and I will transfer it according to FAG's guidelines. If the person you are requesting a transfer for is one of my own family members, loved one, or ancestor, I will not agree to the transfer.

Find A Grave's Updated Transfer Requests Policy (1/24):

Memorials are transferred only for relatives with these close relationships: child, spouse/partner, sibling, parent, grandchild, great-grandchild, grandparent, great-grandparent, niece/nephew, great niece/nephew, aunt/uncle, great aunt/uncle, or first cousin. This would include adoptive, step, and in-law versions of these relationships. Please show sensitivity to immediate and extended family members and their requests.

If two members are related within these guidelines and both would like to manage the memorial, the member with the closer relationship should be given management. If the memorial manager refuses to transfer the memorial, contact [email protected] and we will work on it for you. Remember that there are millions of members, and it is highly likely that some of those members will actually be part of your family tree and share some common ancestors.
