We are a husband & wife team, he a retired engineer and former land surveyor, she a retired educator, editor, and archivist. We began our genealogy research in the late 1970s upon receiving the blank book entitled "The History of Our Family" at a baby shower prior to the birth of our first child. So began our genealogy journey. We started filling pages of the book as we interviewed family members. However, we soon discovered that the memories these relatives shared left us with many unanswered questions. In 1980 we started compiling a genealogy "paper trail" for each interviewed relative. Today we have cabinets full of notebooks containing maps, document copies, genealogy charts, compiled notes, and family photos going back generations. We are slowly scanning all.
