My main contribution to Find-a-Grave has been taking volunteer (and other) photos at beautiful Mt Hope Cemetery in Rochester, NY, a few miles away from our house. I am not originally from Rochester and don't have any relatives buried at Mt Hope although the first owner of our house (built in ~1885) and a lot of his relatives are buried there. At some point, I knew his family tree much better than my own!

I have developed a particular interest in researching the history of the Public Grounds at Mt Hope, where the indigent were buried. I've discovered that the poor souls buried there in the 1800s have suffered from what I call "cemetery gentrification": most of them were displaced from their original burial location to make way for what is now a very upscale section of the cemetery. (That location went from a sleepy corner of the cemetery to near the center of the cemetery, and hence prime "real estate", as the cemetery was expanded.) This feels like a story that deserves to be told.
