I am a history researcher - strongly believe in "sharing with others". I have spent many years in both genealogy collections and visiting cemeteries. I will never pass by a cemetery and not think of the thousands of stories going untold. It was once considered that other sites might be best for lengthy "histories & stories" but with the joint ownership of Findagrave & Ancestry.com that has changed that. A site that only contains a name, DOB, DOD is missing the point of "honoring those who came and left before us". Those posted as "unknown born - unknown died" are heartbreaking to see.

"PER FINDAGRAVE.COM RULES & GUIDELINES NO LINKS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR UNKNOWN BURIAL SITES." This had been the concept until lately as the purpose of Findagrave is to actually FIND graves & known places of burial. Per FAG Admin. bridging ONE generation can be acceptable but creating a string of "unknowns" is def not encouraged. ALL requests to link to UNKNOWN memorials will be denied. IF an unknown burial memorial is posted, PLEASE provide some verification/confirmation of locale.

It would be much appreciated by MANY family researchers. Yes, some burials never had a headstone placed and some were buried on farms & family properties. Some burial sites have been decimated over time. Some burial sites NEVER had a headstone placed.

If you create a memorial for an "unknown" cemetery burial" please provide "source records" for place & date of death. Without this info, conflict is caused for many. If a VERIFIED Findagrave memorial is posted, the "unknown" site will be relinquished (per Findagrave rules).

PLEASE follow the rules established by FINDAGRAVE! ANCESTRY.COM is your friend as are Familysearch.org (free trees". Share with others while RESPECTING the hard work of the MANY Findagrave volunteers who have done the hard work of "cemetery walking " & research.

Yes, this site IS a genealogy site & not just a listing of graves. Accuracy is vital to hundreds/thousands of descendants.

Many early ancestors were buried in unnamed family cemeteries on private land. If the death is recorded and burial was listed as "private land", this means that it is a "known burial". I believe that this site is for finding graves - not finding (alas) "tombstones". Sadly, many "known headstones" may still contain incorrect

Every memorial needs to be created (& edited) with SOURCE RECORDS. "Thank you" to all who so diligently do this work as volunteers. We owe them all our
