Edits (Yours)

Edits to memorials with deaths prior to 1910. Please use the "Notes" field to show how and where we can find authoritative evidence confirming your suggestions. We will re-do our own research, regardless, but if that research takes longer than a day and we are still unable to confirm your suggestions, we will likely reject those suggestions and wait for resubmission with authoritative evidence (see below). Frankly, we relish researching pioneers, but it literally has taken more than two full weeks to confirm a single suggestion for which there was no readily available confirming evidence (except a few family trees with no documentation). In a cemetery with so many pioneers, researching all the suggestions that arrive like this is impossible.

Authoritative evidence. Authoritative sources include census, newspapers, death certificates, family Bibles, obituaries, etc. If the authoritative sources supporting your suggestions are not readily available, even to serious researchers, please use the "Notes" field provided in the edit function to indicate your source and how we may see it.

Are family trees authoritative? No, family trees are not authoritative unless those trees link to, or include, authoritative evidence that supports your suggested edits.

Links. We rarely create memorials without including links to parents and spouses. When those links are not present, it almost always means that we were unable to verify those links to our own satisfaction at the time of creating the memorial. Unless your suggested links are based on relatively new information that is currently and readily available to any serious researcher, you will expedite processing your suggestion by using the "Notes" field to tell us how you know these are the correct links and how we can verify this for ourselves.

Are we in error or failing to abide by FG guidelines? If you believe we have overlooked any current FG requirement, we sincerely hope you will send us a link to the appropriate document on the FG site. If that does not resolve the issue, the next step would be to send a message to [email protected]. We will, of course, accept their decision without comment.

Photographs

All rights are reserved for all of our photographs. While all of our photographs may be used for any fully-private, non-commercial purpose without restriction, we must insist that none of our photographs be re-posted in public trees on Ancestry.com or any other public venue.

Why? The primary purpose of this project is to raise awareness of the service and sacrifices made by Belton's veterans and their families. When our photographs are used publicly without crediting the source, that purpose is defeated. (We are working hard to post all our photographs on Ancestry.com in public trees. If you are unable to link to one there, let us know and we will be happy to post it.)

Belton's Fallen.

Sixteen Belton-connected men answered their country's call in time of war and did not return. These men are listed in the virtual cemetery Belton's Fallen Veterans.

World Wars

From 2014 to 2018 was the 100th anniversary of World War I or the "Great War" as it was known to the doughboys who fought it. In honor of their service, the virtual cemeteries Belton's WWI Veterans and all WWI Veterans In Belton Cemeteries have been created. We are in the process of doing the same for veterans of World War II.
