I am a grandmother, a descendant of long ago immigrants, voluntary and involuntary, who has enjoyed the use of Ancestry.com for more than a decade. My father's family has deep roots in the colonization of America. My mother's family offers racial and ethnic diversity, including Black southwest African, of which we are proud, though not proud of the way they were brought, or are still treated.
Lacking pics of my father's family for a photo book that went 5 generations back, I began looking for gravesite photos, and came into the use of FindAGrave.com. Not always having the photos I wanted led me to "relying on the kindness of strangers", and then, paying it forward by becoming an occasional volunteer photographer in the Portland, OR area.
