Later on the committee of Safety representing Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.Mark Martin Forsyth served as a private in the 15th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry (Northwest) Company F under Colonel Dandridge McRae, then McRae's regiment was reorganized on 8 May 1862 and then became known as Hobb's Regiment. Mark Martin Forsyth participated in the bloody battle of Vicksburg. After 3 days of intense fighting, on 4 July 1863 General Grant and the Union Army captured the city of Vicksburg. According to his Civil War record , on 4 July 1863, private Mark M. Forsyth was captured and then taken prisoner. On 5 July 1863 Mark was transferred to Camp Big Black, then five days later, on 9 July 1863 after signing an oath of allegiance to the US of America, and after declaring that he would no longer engage in any type of military operations against the Union, Mark M. Forsyth was paroled.Luther Holmes Cowan served as a private in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. Luther also was a private in the Texas Mounted Rangers serving under Colonel H.E. McCulloch.David Calvin Cowan served as a 1st Lt. in the Texas Mounted Rangers serving under Lt. John Williams.George E Smith served with the Confederate 19th Infantry during the Civil War.
