Greetings!
I've been a member of FindaGrave long before they were acquired by Ancestry. In 2013, when Ancestry.com purchased FindaGrave, I was required to change my login (for some reason), so it shows my start date as 2013 (but it was long before this). I find this website to be one of the most helpful in cross-checking direct and collateral ancestors. Plus, it's an opportunity to volunteer at the grass-roots level and photograph headstones and cemetery plots for others!
Some of the photos I posted are from my files (actual photos). It would be nice if you'd give credit using my name. I'm surprised when others took my photos and put their name on them. It does help to see who the originator of the photo is, for tracking back for more information. Thank you!
For my ancestor pages that I maintain, I try to add information that has been correctly passed down based on records or stories told, so that other descendants may learn the significance of these men and women. Facial photos are so helpful to observe family resemblances.
I am fortunate to come from a family, both parent's lines, that kept fantastic and accurate records going back to the American Revolution and British Isles and Northern European emigrant countries. This surely and decidedly came from their ancestors who knew the significance of their early American heritage. Two of my grandparents--one paternal, one maternal--were exceptional at organizing exact records and were sticklers for factual accuracy as much as possible. My parents share this same skill set, and with their help and records, I'm a member of the DAR, and working on my Daughter's of the Republic of TX (DRT) application.
My direct line surnames on my paternal grandfather's line are: Roberts, Standlee, Walker, Wheat; on my paternal grandmother's line, Armstrong, Little (Cline/Klein), Fisher.
My direct line surnames on my maternal grandfather's line are: Wilson, Carson, Duffy, Davidson, Durant (various spellings), Hassard/Hazzard (various spellings), Cooper, Conner, McDowell, Sewell/Zuill, Cook. Names on my maternal grandmother's line: McKinstry, Stewart, Moore, Lewis, Karr, McDonald, Moffitt.
