I am the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Niten Southern and Roy Lee Southern. I found this site by looking for my grandmother's brother so that I could reconnect with his daughter.
Anyway, my Mama was the family genealogist. She had done a tremendous amount of research on both her family as well as my father's family. She was so excited about finding connections. I am so saddened that I did not share her enthusiasm at the time. Since her passing in 2010, I have started getting more interested in the family tree and how far the branches go and how far back the roots will lead me. I am not sure if this is helping me keep a connection with Mama or if I'm simply able to honor her memory by carrying on the research and documentation of the connections. I am actively trying to find members of the family that may have been somehow overlooked or may not have the correct information and getting things updated. If you come across my site and realize we are related in some way, I would love to hear from you!! By the way, this site helped me find my distant cousin, Lynn Eason, to whom I will forever be grateful. If she had not taken photographs of Granny's (Nannie Lucille Young Niten)'s grave, I would have probably never have found this site! Thanks for reading about me.
2024 update - I find it interesting when I see what a person died from, and I'm starting to list the reasons for death on the memorials I manage - if I know what they are. This information will either be from my first hand knowledge or the actual diagnosis on the death certificate.
