One day I stumbled across Find A Grave, and a distant cousin had tied my mother's maternal side of her family together, I was hooked! So as well as putting my own family tree together, I also link other families together on FAG, and add info to memorials from vital records or newspapers. I think it is important to know about those who came before us.
I have had contact with so many people through genealogy, some related, some not, but all curious like me. A great day is when you find that tidbit or link that puts together another piece of your unending puzzle or find something for a friend that they never knew, or they didn't know how to find. So I try to do little pieces with the hope that someone will find them and have that ah-hah moment as I have so many times.
The names in my tree are; Wall, Johnson, Sizemore, Carr, Salyers, Clark, Wells, Patton, Sammet, Yahn, Jahn, Amann, Feilner, Hamler, Davis, Fearing, and George. I have strong German roots on one side, and a lot of Kentucky roots on the other, with a touch of Native American.
A cousin once said to me that she loved dead people. Let's just say I now know exactly what she meant. My husband says I am always "digging up bones" and I guess in a sense I really am.
