DAR member via Maggard/Francis Sturgill

I am working to improve my various family lines and to coordinate my FamilySearch with Find a Grave and make things better for everyone to be able to understand what is proven already, and to share the photos and information that I have.

Maggard (Samuel side) -

This line of the family has been written about in the book, Coming Down the Cumberland - A History of the Maggard Family of Eastern Kentucky, by V.N. Bud Phillips, copyright 1991, reprinted with index and changes 2004 by The Overmountain Press, ISBN 1-57072-295-1.

It is extremely useful, but the birthdates are not quite accurate (frequently). Never the less, it is a good guide to understand the family line and who married who and which children they had. The family is NOT German, they are Mennonites from Switzerland that were from a German speaking area.

Here is another excellent book written about some of the Maggard (David side) of the family: "Hans Maggard's Other Son: A History and Genealogy of the David Maggard Family," by Mary Kay Hushman Lavezzari.

I also work on:

Williams, Spears, Gray, Richards, Walkup, Cox, Watts, Pratt, Gibson, Campbell, Creech, Cornett and more.

Many of them moved to Tennessee or Kentucky and stayed there.

Some moved progressively South and West to Texas and Oklahoma.
