I am primarily interested in researching the Pu'uiki Cemetery in Waialua and in recognizing it as a Wahi Pana. I have been there often enough to know that on a late, calm afternoon, or during rougher weather, a sudden wild, rushing wind often rustles through the ironwood trees along the 'a'alu, moving the surface stillness of the brackish stream. I have seen when the sun rises in the eastern sky on a beautiful winter morning, the gravestones are bathed in the brilliant, blinding light of dawn. I have felt on mornings like this a sense of reverence, and the cemetery's undisturbed, daily stillness evokes feelings of suspended time, as well as giving moments for quiet reflection on loss, hope, and renewal. My research also respectfully spiritually requests that the ancestors bless my Oahu Ohana and keep them safe, helping them to live healthy, happy, and productive lives filled with faith.

The cemetery holds deep cultural and historical significance, particularly for local families and the descendants of those buried there. The search led me to assist with other cemeteries and contributors, mainly in the state of Hawaiʻi. Through my research, I have come to understand that Pu'uiki Cemetery in Waialua is a place with a heartbeat, a place alive with history, spiritual energy, and ancestral memory. The story of this small piece of land in Waialua, Oahu, deserves recognition because it encapsulates a significant part of Hawaiian history. My research beyond Find a Grave for this cemetery hopes to raise awareness about the origins of Pu'uiki Cemetery, its enduring presence in the 21st century, and the profound significance it continues to hold.
