I have been doing genealogical research on my family line since 1991. In 2015 I discovered Find A Grave and have been volunteering ever since. I have fallen in love with these old cemeteries in my neck of the woods. I go to the counties of Polk, St. Clair and Hickory mostly. There are hundreds of small, out of the way on back country roads cemeteries. Most are fairly well cared for. I often feel as if I get to know some of these families who are buried in various cemeteries. I love it when a memorial has a bio connecting the family members. Actually, it helps me find headstones.
One of my favorite old cemeteries is Shady Grove #2 just outside Humansville, Polk County, Missouri. It has sadly come into disrepair lately and no one seems to be in charge or know who is. If anyone who stops by here and is a descendant of anyone buried there, please contact me. I want to get some people together to manage and care for this lovely little cemetery.
