Death Certificates - Birth dates, place of birth, even parents' names on a death certificate can be incorrect. Genealogists suggest one not rely solely on the birth date listed on a death certificate because it is considered secondary information; often provided by a grieving informant (like a spouse or child) who was not present at the birth and may be guessing. Death certificates often contain errors due to ignorance or misremembered information, making earlier records like census entries, draft, birth, baptismal, or marriage records more reliable.
US Social Security Death Index SSDI gives Last Residence, which is not proof of death place.
