I live in Aiken, SC. My mother is Mildred Elizabeth Barton Barton. She was raised in the New Holland~ Montmorenci~ Aiken areas. Her mother and father were Minnie Lee Moseley Barton and Henry Frederick Barton, and are buried in the Montmorenci Baptist Church Cemetery, along with many family members. She compiled her family history into an 8 x 10 sized soft back book, which she had printed in 1990, titled A FAMILY TREE - By: Mildred B. Barton. It is all the genealogical information she could gather, over the course of about 40 years, by either word of mouth, census records, bible records, or the like, on the Barton~Gingery~Brown~Moseley families of this area. She met and married Olis Davis Barton, Sr., who hailed from South Georgia, in the Pitts, Rebecca, and Rochelle area. His mother and father were Maryanne Smith Barton and Seaborn Gaston Barton. Are my mother and father distantly related? That question makes me smile. Who knows, we may never find out. Three brothers got off a ship and one went this way, one went that way, and the other settled way over yonder :-) My mother made contributions, on behalf of my father's family, to Volume III of The Passing of The Pines, History of Wilcox County. After my father passed away, in 2007, my mother collected funding from my father's side of the family, then we all gathered together to have a bench placed at the Smith-Davis-Barton Cemetery in Rochelle, GA., in honor of my paternal grandmother, Maryanne Smith Barton, who donated the land for the cemetery. My mother, being 90 now, recently handed over the care of that cemetery to David Barton, son of Elton Barton (another of Seaborn Gaston Barton's sons), who still lives in the area. Family contribute towards a grass cutting fund, which he maintains, and writes the checks out of, during the summer months. I was named after my paternal Aunt Lula Barton (Smith) Vinson, who passed away before I was born. She was named after her paternal grandmother, Sarah Louisa Davis Smith. She, my grandparents, and great grandparents, and many more kin, are buried in the Smith-Davis-Barton cemetery. Happy hunting to you all.
