As a career veteran myself, I welcome accurate military service information on all memorials.
***There is no Department of Defense regulation that prohibits including a veteran's rank on a Find a Grave memorial page.***
I used to think that we shouldn't add the rank to folks who only served one enlistment. The common belief is that they only served one term and that wasn't a significant part of their life. However, we don't know how that impacted their life. Did they suffer physical or psychological disability following service? Did they die years later from Agent Orange?. Yes, I'll add PVT or SRA to a memorial. They SERVED!
If you are of the belief a rank should not be included at all due to a DoD regulation, please provide the specific Department of Defense regulation (including the directive, instruction, chapter, and section number) that applies to deceased veterans and online memorials like Find a Grave. I will review and follow it accordingly.
