I have been a life long history "nerd" . I began playing around on Ancestry . com about 4 or 5 years ago and have discovered I have some real "rock stars" on my family tree. From a Revolutionary war hero Col James Williams in South Carolina , to dozens of Civil War soldiers on both sides to a West Point graduate and a New Mexico gunfighter who may have traded shots with Billy the Kid.
Genealogy has inspired me to take trips to Gettysburg to see where my ancestor fought, and to grave yards in South Carolina and Georgia .
It inspired me to organize a family reunion with cousins I have not seen in 45 years and gave me the opportunity to be with 5 living generations of my family in the same room!!!
I plan to visit Mt. Vernon Illinois as I have about 20 ancestors buried in and near Mt Vernon.
I especially enjoy researching Civil War era soldiers and I am more than willing to help anyone who asks about people of that era.
