Researching and applying for government markers for Civil War veterans in Grace Lawn Cemetery in Elkhart IN. Also including Spanish American and War of 1812. I have had approved and placed over 80 so far. since the rules have changed for who can apply, I have added 4 memorial markers. Three for Rice cemetery: Veterans that were originally buried in Grace Lawn - Elkhart Vet section and their bodies were moved to Rice cemetery when the CW monument was moved from downtown Elkhart to the entrance of Rice. Their records were purged and they were called the unknown soldiers of Elkhart. I was able to determine who they were in about 2002. One was marked by the family. I was able to mark the other three in 2025. The last one, it was determined that he did not serve but was representing the govt. for two years serving on 2 gunboats on the Ohio River.
