Please Note:

• I will not remove GPS latitude/longitude coordinates from a memorial that were generated from a photograph. The GPS feature was created by Find A Grave. If you feel the GPS coordinates are severely off/incorrect, you may request a new photo to include new coordinates, and let me know the findings. In addition, any further concern over the accuracy of any/all GPS coordinates posted on any Find A Grave memorial, please contact Find A Grave and ask them to remove the feature entirely from their website/memorials. This is their feature, not mine.
• Only actual gravestone photos should be labeled as "GRAVE" photos. All others should be labeled in one of the other categories, "person, family, or other".
• Please be prepared to support your edit requests. Per Find A Grave: "Keep in mind the Genealogical Proof Standard when updating and adding to memorials." This can be found here: https://support.findagrave.com/s/article/Suggest-Edits-Overview.
• Memorials for UNKNOWN place of burials aren't a bad thing. IF the date of death is sourced or verified by an actual death record or an obituary, I believe they are acceptable.
• Information found ONLY on family trees that isn't sourced, is not always accurate or reliable, and I usually won't approve the edit if that is the source you are using. I appreciate all OTHER sources & vital records you can provide.
• If I am unable to verify the information, I may or may not approve a suggested edit. This is at my discretion. Sometimes, unverified specific locations/dates/names are best left on individual trees until it can be verified or confirmed. I don't want to add to the misinformation of an individual by documenting something on their Find A Grave memorial that may not be true. Thank you. ~JIK

I hope your experience with Find A Grave, and its contributors, is ultimately a positive one, despite the sadness we experience from the loss of our loved ones.

I have been researching my family tree for many, many years. Boxes, file folders, old photos, newspaper clippings, bibles and letters, etc., passed to me from parents and grandparents. Family research is not a perfect science. There are errors in vital records, as well as newspapers and the old censuses. Even family stories passed down through generations can be unreliable and misleading. In fact, tombstones are not always accurate. You have to sometimes "read between the lines". It is a disservice to our past loved ones as well as other researchers when we have incorrect information posted for an individual on any forum.

I strive to have accurate information in my family tree database, including on the Find A Grave memorials I manage or those that I contribute information to. I am grateful for the availability of the many sources I use to verify information, including information provided by other researchers.

I also send a heartfelt THANK YOU to those that have posted gravestone photos to the memorials I manage. It is greatly appreciated!
