I am a photographer, and use my free time to take and submit photos to existing memorials, or add memorials which I see no existing memorials for. I submit photos for memorials which not only have no current photos, but also in which I felt the present photos are not ideal to be used for a keepsake for a loved one to print and keep. A photo should be at a proper angle for framing, scrapbooking, photo albums, etc. When a photo is very grainy, off to the side, doesn't have the entire stone in view, or in proper focus, a better one should be taken if it can be. If the new one which is uploaded is of much better quality, and there is an issue with the number of photos on the memorial, then out of respect to the family the POOREST quality photo(s) should be deleted. This should not be judged by which is the most or least recent, or who hosts the memorial, etc. If I were family to the deceased and someone added some of the photos I have seen, I would be very disappointed, especially if it was in response to a photo request. I do the same type and quality of work for others that I would expect out of someone doing the work for me, and this is the type and quality of photos I will submit.I have gone to great personal lengths, as well as great out of pocket expense to submit photos of good quality to allow for a respectful representation of these memorials. If the family sincerely isn't please with my photos, then they can contact me and I will remove them, or take time out of my day to go back and take the exact type of photo they would like: sunrise, sunset, cloudy, sunny, in the dark with flash, etc. However, if my photo is the better quality photo, I will not remove it, out of respect to the memory of the deceased unless asked by an actual family member. I sincerely believe that both the family, as well as the deceased, would hope for someone to take the best quality photo, and that it should be taken as respectfully as possible. I personally do not feel that a quick snap at an off angle, and one of poor quality is what most people would want for themselves or their loved-one if given the choice. Of course, if this is all that is available, it is better than no photo at all, however, if you can honor the family and deceased by submitting a better photo for them, then this should be done. That said, if a FAMILY member is displeased with my photos, or has a request for a certain type, or better quality photo, please let me know. However, if the complaint about the photo is mostly due to bruised pride because a new photo has been uploaded instead of yours, please consider the family and the deceased before taking up a complaint about a photo, especially if your photo is of considerably lower quality. I wish to be respectful, and I am not left out of this statement. If I see a photo submitted for memorials I host is of better quality than my own, or those previously submitted, then I will remove the lower quality ones out of respect to the deceased and the family. If you have suggestions on how a current photo can be improved, or if there is a correction to be made for a name or birth/death date, please let me know. Thank you!
