This Find a Grave Profile is for the Historic Mound Prairie Cemeteries Preservation Society (A Cemetery Association), an organization that was created in 2018 to Manage and Maintain 16th Section Cemetery (formerly known as the old Stuart Family Graveyard) and the Historic Mounds Cemetery (formerly known as the Johnson Family graveyard)both in Columbus, Arkansas in Hempstead County, An Area originally known as Mound Prairie in Arkansas Territory... This Group was started by Descendants of the Pioneer Patriarchs of the Hopson, Stuart, Johnson, Walker, and Caldwell Families who all lived at Mound Prairie. Our mission is to oversee the Cleaning, Restoration, Improvements, Beautification, Maintenance, and Preservation of these two Historic Cemeteries, and others in the area, (in 2022 we added Hopson Cemetery at Falls Chapel in Sevier County, Hopson Cemetery at Rocky Comfort or Foreman in Little River County, and Walker Family Cemetery at White Cliffs in Sevier County).....the Final Resting places of our Arkansas Territorial Pioneer Ancestors...who were either born, raised or died in Mound Prairie. This organization is open to anyone anywhere who is interested in being a part of this group, because of their Love for the Historic Cemeteries of Hempstead County and Southwest Arkansas. The Mounds Cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013...because it is the Final Resting Place of some of the earliest Arkansas Territorial Pioneers, including a Revolutionary War Veteran, Edward Johnson Sr. NOW it is UP to US...those currently still living....to Restore, Maintain, and Preserve them for Future Generations not yet Born....contact US at [email protected]
