I've been doing genealogy research off and on for 30 years. I'm not sure if it's a hobby or an obsession. :)
Photography is also a hobby of mine, so I've volunteered to photograph graves in my area too. I understand how valuable having a photo of your family member's headstone is for your genealogy research, and also just to somehow have more of a connection to your loved one/family member/friend.
