Remembering those who have gone before us. I love the research part of creating memorials. Finding and connecting families is my goal. I also love digging through old church records, especially the french ones with the terrible handwriting.

Many burials before 1890 are from church records. Most will have no headstone remaining.

When a memorial is harder to find information for, or is confusing, I add as many details as possible to help researchers find what I did to confirm the information. Some of these old French families can be a challenge to untwist. I hope to help others by providing the path down the rabbit holes.

Age at death in older church records are most often incorrect. Unless an exact birth date is given, you should assume the date of birth as an approximation based on age given in church record. I've found that most fall within 10 years either way of the age given, with most being younger than church records indicate.

Please don't copy information from other sites without doing the research. There are so many errors spread because of this practice. French names were similar and families married close relations. In some instances, there were siblings with the same name. In researching my memorials I've found many errors along the way.

Most catholic girls in older records were baptized with the first name Marie. At that time this was required by the church. Their second name was usually the name used throughout their life. For this reason, I put the name Marie as the middle name unless she was just named Marie. The same goes for the boys who were baptized Joseph as first name.
