To those who insist that the only purpose of FindAGrave is to record the final resting place of people; I ask, what meaningful purpose does that alone serve?

Yes, I agree it is not a genealogy site and not meant to be a family tree; however, it does serve a very important and meaningful role as a tool in one's genealogical research. The volunteers on this site are an indispensable part of that research; whether your focus is photographing, creating, maintaining, researching or collaborating, you all are important to the value of the site.

The key word here is volunteer. The fact that so many of us volunteer is a reflection of how much we all care about this site. We may not all perceive it the same way but there is no denying that we all care.

I appreciate everyone who contributes to this site, whether I agree with you or not, you deserve thanks and appreciation. Be kind to each other. One day we all will be a memorial on this site.

I personally spend most of my time here connecting family lines and editing memorials. To me, there is nothing more heartbreaking than a memorial with no connections. There is nothing more satisfying than reuniting that person with family. Do I get it wrong on occasion? Of course, I am only human. But the loved ones searching have the opportunity to find that missing link and make corrections when necessary.

I just want to add this to the above. For those of you so rigid in your refusal to connect family members, you should, in my opinion, consider the fact that where deaths occurred in the 1600s and earlier in this country, it is likely that the exact burial place will never be known. These early and historically sourced family connections should not be denied based on the unknown burial.

Having said that, I do not believe every unknown burial should be created. They should be rare and based on circumstances of the time.

Yes, again it is not a genealogical site; however, Find a Grave has evolved to be an adjunct to genealogical research, a vital and invaluable resource.

I am willing to transfer management to anyone that is a closer relation than I am to any of the memorials I manage. Please include your relationship when requesting transfer.
