I live in Adelaide, South Australia and am a descendant of the Farleigh-Manicom-Gibson, Stephinson-Swanton-Creed, Kurtz-West-Dubois, McLennan-McKinnon families from NSW, and the Sternagel family from Breslau, Prussia, Germany.

Having a german hertitage (my father was born in Germany), I have a special interest in photographing old 19th century german headstones in rural South Australia. I make sure that I cover all sides of the headstone, as there are often inscriptions on the front and back, which add much richness to the memorial. Sometimes that requires coming back in the morning or afternoon in order to get the best lighting to view both sides of the headstone.

I also enjoy the process of transcribing the ornate german Fraktur font inscriptions, and then translating into English, which can be quite challenging. However, the translations often uncover treasured gems, conveying some very deep sentiments, and this is my reward.
