I volunteer for the Rock Creek Cemetery Association Board in Canby, Oregon. Compiling all the available information on Rock Creek Cemetery has been a labor of love over the last three years.
At Rock Creek Cemetery, we make it easy to find your loved one's burial location using the Find A Grave app. All graves have a GPS associated with them.
The Rock Creek Church sits in the center of the cemetery. Records show the Church was established in 1852. The original hand-carved pews are still in the church.
The cemetery was established in 1847, and the first recorded burial was in 1852. Burial records have been found in our Little Black Book (LBB). These records have helped us compile an additional, accurate listing of all the graves in Rock Creek Cemetery. Unfortunately, about 70 of those graves are unmarked.
By combining all Rock Creek Cemetery records and other research, we have been able to link families, add biographical profiles and plot information, and include the GPS locations of all gravestones. We cross-referenced this information to the sexton's records and found death certificates, death notices, photos, and obituaries.
Veterans are being researched, with the hope that the VA will mark the graves of those men.
Following the recommendations of the State of Oregon Historical Cemetery Board, we recently cleaned and repaired all the historical grave markers in the cemetery.
Volunteers are also currently in the expensive process of restoring the Rock Creek Chapel on the cemetery grounds.
I am thankful for the help, additional information, and photos I have received from the families of those buried in our local community cemetery.
