Grew up in Indy. My brother Scott and I share the same dad Jerry Lee Locke. Our grandfather Charles Edward Locke died in Sept of 1956 so neither of us ever knew him. Now dad is gone and my search has begun to find out anything about the Locke side of the family. I found Thomas Benton Locke sometimes spelled Lock or Loke and even Locket married Hattie Wysard July 3 1870 in Louisville Ky. I can't find anything further back on either of them. I know they lived with a family Richard and Rebecca Rutledge in 1870. Then their 3 children are born in OH. Jennie Olive, Charles Edward is born in Cleveland OH Mar 14th 1875 and then son George Benton Locke . Then in the 1880 census they are back in Louisville KY living with or near a family named James Gregg. Thomas and James are about the same age 35 and 33 and both work at the Rol Mill. Then in April of 1881 Thomas gets TB and dies. Hattie dies of TB also Sept of 1882. The only information I have is Hattie's obituary names Jas. T. Mercer as her Uncle who is taking care of the funeral. What I found out is Jas T Mercer is married to Maggie J Wysard. On their marriage license it lists Clarence Owen and Amanda Wysard as witnesses. My grandfather list his parents as being John and Jenni Owen on his marriage license in 1926 to my grandmother. John and Jenni Owen were NOT his parents. Thomas and Hattie were his parents. So this leads me to question who John and Jenni Owen are.... the three children left behind were Jennie Olive 9 Charles Edward 7 and George Benton was 5 .... since Clarence Owen was on a marriage license as a witness to a Wysard did John and Jenni take the 3 children in and raise them?
