When my mother lost her eyesight to macular degeneration in 1997, she asked me to organize and type her notes on the Neiswender and VanVliet families so the information would not be lost. It got me hooked on genealogy, and I quickly added files for my paternal grandparents: the Deviney and Long families.
In time, I discovered many others researching the Neiswender, VanVliet and Long family histories, and passed those records off to others further along the back-trail to the old country. These days, mostly in the winter months, I focus primarily on the Deviney's, when I'm not busy at church, woodworking, target shooting, and having fun with the grandkids.

* I've found eleven variations in spelling of my surname. My own grandfather used two spellings in his lifetime, and there are four different spellings used in birth certificates for his nine children. And that's not counting whether the V is capitalized or not.
