Family history is important, and one of the ways I was taught bits of it was by visiting the graveyard with my great grandmother(? it's kinda unclear how that works because my grandmother was actually adopted) Mimi, who would take us to visit where she was going to be buried sometimes as a kid, and pointed out relatives buried nearby, and tell us things she remembered about them.

I've always been interested in finding the oldest stones in a graveyard (it became something of a competition in my family if we were bored at the cemetery), and in recent years I've realized that photographing them, or writing down what they say now could be important, since a lot of the old stones become hard to read over time. The thought that a person could be lost to history is a sad one for me, so finding this site makes me excited to see so many folks documenting what they can so these people aren't forgotten, and maybe their family can find them and fill in some gaps in the family tree.
